In 1965 the dream takes root. The EDUCATION FOUNDATION is chartered by the BPW/Florida membership and purchases the first scholarship house in Tallahassee, adjoining Florida State University.
This house provided a home to 20-22 undergraduate women annually during its 12 years of operation. In 1976, this house was sold and a new one, housing 20 students and one resident advisor, was built on Stadium Drive adjacent to the FSU campus.
The new house, dedicated in 1977 at a cost of $150,000 was paid in full in three years.
LaQuitta Davis, 2005 resident advisor, summed up what she has learned living in a Education Foundation Scholarship House:
"I have become more responsible and have learned how to deal with people from differing cultures. I have clearly learned to be more open minded.”

What are the responsibilities of the Residents of the Scholarship Houses? |

|
The Scholarship Houses are cooperative living environments that provide campus living for women who meet both the financial and academic requirements. The cooperative living environment means the residents learn skills necessary to run the houses effectively and efficiently. Once selected to live in the house, they elect officers for the semester who are responsible for ensuring that the bylaws of the house are followed. There are weekly meetings of the officers and residents who are responsible for all house operations, including finances, cleaning, purchasing and preparing food. |
